Three words that describe John Tegtmeier... Coach, Teacher, Entrepreneur.
Coach:
John discovered a passion for Martial Arts at the age of 19 while attending the University of California, Irvine. He began teaching classes soon after getting his first Black Belt. Working with Shihan Robert McCreary, he helped create one of the most successful independent Dojos in Southern California. As Chief Instructor he passed on the lessons about honor, loyalty, and resilience both on and off the mat to students of all ages and abilities

Teacher:
After college and some of his “first jobs” John joined Starbucks Coffee. As part of the Retail Management Training Program, John helped train and mentor newly hired Starbucks managers John’s favorite part of being a manager was teaching the classes that all newly hired “partners” attended before entering the stores. One of the primary responsibilities of being a Starbucks manager was developing teamwork within the staff and helping partners continue to develop their own individual skills and knowledge. Several of the partners who began as Baristas in John’s stores went on to enter the Retail Management Training program to become future store managers. Managing a retail coffee store for Starbucks gave John an opportunity to gain more management experience and hone his business skills. John also credits the Employee Stock benefits offered by Starbucks as being the start of his interest in the markets.
During this time, John continued to teach Martial Arts, John also taught Sailing at a local sailing club in Marina del Ray.

Entrepreneur:
John received his MBA from Pepperdine University, Graziadio Business School. After graduation, John joined his younger sister Deanne Tegtmeier at SagePoint Financial. In almost 20 years as an Independent Financial Planner, John has seen both the good years and the bad. This helps him coach clients through the emotional rollercoaster of the market and see through the current fad investments. In addition to holding various securities and Insurance licenses, John Is a Certified Financial Planning Professional. As a CFP® Professional, John has taken an oath to put his clients’ interests ahead of his own and act as a Fiduciary on his clients’ behalf. This is considered one of the highest designations in the financial planning industry

Other interesting things about John:
In addition to working with his financial planning clients, John coaches multiple small business owners on how to scale their company to the next level.
John continues to grow and start new companies himself. In 2019, John started an Airbnb business that manages the property his family owns on Lake Travis in Austin Texas.
This year John is starting a joint venture with a charter boat company on Lake Travis.
When not focused on business John likes to maintain an active lifestyle. Current passions are stand-up paddleboarding, wake surfing, and Mountain biking. John continues to train in Martial Arts and can still be found on the mat sometimes teaching a class. John competed in Adventure Races. He ran the L.A. Marathon in 2010 after a friend bet him he couldn’t do it one week before the race. John has jumped out of “perfectly good airplanes’ 275 times and is a certified scuba diver. John enjoys golf but doesn’t get enough time to practice. As a result, he tends to lose a lot of balls.
